Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Qu-Chat's quantum-safe messaging, security, and features.
Getting Started
What is Qu-Chat?
Qu-Chat is a quantum-resistant, decentralized messaging application that uses NIST-approved post-quantum cryptography to protect your conversations against both current and future threats, including quantum computers.
How do I get started with Qu-Chat?
Simply connect your Web3 wallet (like MetaMask) to start messaging. No phone number, email, or personal information required. You can start chatting immediately after connecting your wallet.
Is Qu-Chat really free?
Yes! Qu-Chat is completely free to use. There are no premium tiers, no subscriptions, and no hidden costs. We're building this for everyone.
Do I need cryptocurrency to use Qu-Chat?
No! You just need a Web3 wallet (like MetaMask), but you don't need any cryptocurrency in it. The wallet is only used for identity—no transactions or gas fees required for messaging.
Security & Privacy
What is quantum-resistant encryption?
Quantum-resistant (or post-quantum) encryption uses cryptographic algorithms designed to be secure against attacks from both classical and quantum computers. Qu-Chat uses ML-KEM-768 (Kyber), which is NIST-approved and standardized for post-quantum security.
Can you read my messages?
No. Your messages are encrypted on your device before being sent, and only the intended recipient can decrypt them. We have no access to your message content. Our decentralized architecture makes it technically impossible for us to read your conversations.
What data do you collect?
We don't collect, store, or sell your data. We literally can't—there are no central databases to store it in. Your messages are encrypted and distributed across a peer-to-peer network.
How is this different from Signal or WhatsApp?
While Signal and WhatsApp use end-to-end encryption, they rely on central servers and use traditional cryptography that will be vulnerable to quantum computers. Qu-Chat is fully decentralized (no central servers) and uses quantum-resistant cryptography approved by NIST.
What encryption does Qu-Chat use?
Qu-Chat uses ML-KEM-768 (CRYSTALS-Kyber) for quantum-resistant key exchange and AES-256-GCM for symmetric encryption. Both are industry-standard, with ML-KEM being NIST-approved for post-quantum security.
Features
Can I send images and files?
Yes! You can share images and files. Media is stored on IPFS (a distributed storage network) and only accessible to conversation participants.
Does Qu-Chat support group chats?
Yes! You can create encrypted group conversations with role-based access control. Only group members can read messages.
Is there a mobile app?
Not yet, but it's on our roadmap! For now, Qu-Chat works in any modern mobile browser. Native iOS and Android apps are coming soon.
Can I use Qu-Chat on desktop and mobile?
Yes! Qu-Chat works in any modern web browser on both desktop and mobile devices. No app installation required.
Technical
What is decentralized messaging?
Decentralized messaging means your messages aren't stored on any company's servers. Instead, they're distributed across a peer-to-peer network with no single point of control or failure. This makes censorship and data breaches virtually impossible.
What happens if the Qu-Chat website goes down?
Because Qu-Chat is decentralized, your messages aren't stored on our servers. The peer-to-peer network continues to operate independently. You can access Qu-Chat through any compatible client that connects to the P2P network.
Can I trust Qu-Chat with sensitive information?
Our cryptography is solid (NIST-approved post-quantum algorithms), and our architecture ensures we can't access your messages. However, this is early-stage software. For highly sensitive communications, we recommend waiting for a professional security audit.
How does Web3 wallet authentication work?
Your wallet address serves as your unique identity on Qu-Chat. You prove ownership by signing a message with your wallet—no passwords needed. This gives you full control over your identity without relying on any central authority.
